Working in a new space by the sea, I have been dwelling deeper into it as I reflect and paint about the precious gift of silence, the capacity we all have to shut out from this noisy world we live in and just be. I experience this feeling over and over when I am painting, but recently, I also had the chance to listen to the silence in nature as I walk by the sea. I have embraced the rhythmic song of the ocean and let it into my inner, silent universe.

 

Each piece of this new series harnesses a unique balance of space and emptiness, blending the soft and diffuse tones to create a feeling of the immensity and vastness of the universe we inhabit. The minimal embroidery interventions with gold threads invite the viewer to enter that silent and magnificent universe and its paradox of complex simplicity.

 

Each piece was constructed using a single reduced palette of primary colors in oils to create unique tones and values that I applied in several thin layers. This process generates a subtle harmony between depth and smoothness. I embroidered each piece with tiny stitches in handmade 24k gold thread. Throughout history, we have considered gold a precious material. As such, I used this material as a metaphor for the incalculable value of each step we walk during our lives.
